What exactly does the long version of Spider-Man : No Way Home ?
An introduction by the legendary trio
Fans of the legendary trio formed by Spider-Man, namely Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, will be delighted from the first minutes of this extended version. The three actors thus introduce the film in a short sequence in front of the camera, in which they return to the meeting of their three characters on screen and even declare their mutual love.
Tom Holland's little brother
Would you like to meet Harry, Tom Holland's little brother? It's now possible with this extended version, in which Spider-Man stops a thief at the start of the film. Passers-by then stop, even suspecting the superhero of being in cahoots with the criminal. Peter Parker claims not to know him, which makes the sequence much funnier when we know that this supporting role is played by… Harry Holland, the little brother of actor Tom Holland.
A passage extended by Damage Control
In the film, the Department of Damage Control interrogates Peter Parker about the events of Spider-Man : Homecomingand in particular the damage to the Washington Monument. The superhero specifies here that Spider-Man does not in any way wish to put people's lives in danger, while the interrogation undergone by Aunt May is also longer. She then becomes more combative, highlighting her deplorable conditions of detention.
A new appearance of Daredevil
In Spider-Man : No Way Homeactor Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. He is then hired as a lawyer to defend Spider-Man and his family, which already gave rise to an astonishing sequence based on… snow globes. In the long version of the film, an additional scene was added between the character of Happy and Daredevil: the latter then asks him to stop sweating, faced with the arrival of the bad guys at his home. Happy is surprised that Matt Murdock is able to detect his stress, even though he is blind.
An improbable elevator scene
If the long version is worth a look, it is above all for its mastery of fan service, through seemingly useless sequences. The elevator scene fits perfectly into this category, revealing to us a funny shot lasting a few seconds: that of Peter, Aunt May, Electro, Doctor Octopus, Norman Osborn and Sandman, gathered in complete tranquility in this small enclosed space to join Happy's apartment. This is what we call being calm.
Peter's bullying at school
It's honestly not easy going back to school, even less so when you're a superhero and your identity is revealed. The long version of Spider-Man : No Way Home thus shows Peter Parker being harassed during a gym class in which other students push him to climb a wall, so they can make fun of him better.
More lines for JK Simmons
If the identity of Spider-Man is now known to everyone, it is because of one man: the journalist J. Jonah Jameson, played by JK Simmons (La La Land). In the long version, the latter has additional scenes, notably when he invites an electrician into his show to have him testify about the damage caused by Spider-Man during his fight against Electro and the Sandman.
Betty Brant's report
The long version has a fairly substantial sequence around a report by Betty Brant, a high school student and journalist who discusses Spider-Man with several teachers and students. We also see him in the middle of an exclusive interview with Peter Parker. The latter then states that he would thank the radioactive spider who gave him his powers, if he had the opportunity to speak to it.
A new post-credits scene
Betty's character is also at the center of a new post-credits scene, which replaces the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessbroadcast in the original version. This never-before-seen sequence is made up of several photos and videos, compiled by Betty Brant during her high school years. This montage retraces the events of Homecoming and of Far From Homewith one exception: everyone forgot the existence of Peter Parker, after the spell cast by Doctor Strange.
The Monster Mash by Doctor Strange
In No Way HomePeter, Ned and MJ are in Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. The long version offers us a montage of their preparation for combat on the famous song Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett. The trio then comes face to face with several strange objects, including a miniature version of the Sanctum Sanctorum, in which we can see the shadow of Doctor Strange.
The final battle
During the final fight of the film, the three Spider-Mans come together to defend themselves against a group of villains. The long version then allows them to discuss in more detail their respective lives, their favorite techniques for launching their webs, but also their desire to stay in touch, even after this final battle. For this adorable sequence alone, the extended version of Spider-Man : No Way Home definitely worth a look.
