According to a meteorologist's analysis, this is a “common” wind episode for the season. But you will have to remain vigilant: the North and Pas-de-Calais switch to yellow vigilance, for violent windsstarting this Saturday, December 21, 2024. It will start to blow hard at the end of the afternoon, in Pas-de-Calais, and at the beginning of the evening, in the North. Gusts of up to 85 km/h are announced by Météo France.
Squalls before Christmas Eve… very calm?
From this Saturday at the end of the day, gusts will be between 70 and 75 km/h across both departments. In “calmer” weather, the wind will still blow between 30 and 45 km/h, including inland and in large towns.
It is the day of Sunday which should be the most trying for walkers, with wind peaks between 65 km/h – in Lille, Lens, Arras, Béthune… – and 85 km/h on the coast (Calais, Wissant , Boulogne-sur-Mer…). The yellow vigilance, which runs until Sunday 9 a.m. should therefore be renewed for the whole day, despite very mild skies on the horizon.
This windy episode is linked to the arrival of an anticyclone at the start of next week, which suggests a sunny Christmas (for the time when there is still daylight…). Despite the nice clearings forecast by Météo France on Monday, the wind will still be there in Nord-Pas-de-Calais: between 60 and 65 km/h are expected today.
