A sequel, but not botched

The film directed by the great Fede Alvarez therefore aroused strong reactions from fans who logically demanded a sequel. But the Uruguayan filmmaker wanted to be cautious about how to make a possible sequel to Alien: Romulus. In an interview published by the Gizmodo site on November 22, 2024, he warns fans about the principle of making a sequel when the first opus has good commercial results. According to him, this is not necessary. “You should never fall into the mistake of making a sequel just because the first one was a big success… Making a sequel just because you can make it is always a recipe for disaster”, he says.

With these statements, he warns of the dangers that an unfinished film can have on the franchise. But on the other hand, he shows his enthusiasm if the production studio were to give him the reins of a future second opus. “Well, I mean we absolutely want to do it. The studio wants to do it. I want to do it. I think with sequels it's always about finding the right story. Me and Rodo, my co-writer, we have some ideas, but it's only when we find something that makes us say, 'Okay, this is a movie worth making' that we really launch into it. adventure. So that's the process we're in now, trying to find a story that's worth spending time on and worthy of the title”, he adds.
