More than 2.2 million admissions in five days, record start: “Moana 2” overwhelms the box office

The scores are dizzying. Between Wednesday November 27 and Sunday evening, “Moana 2” accumulated more than 2.2 million admissions – 69,477 precisely – in 647 cinemas and without any preview. This is not only the best start of the year over five days – ahead of “Vice-Versa 2” – but also the best start of all time for an animated film in . Better, the feature film also got the best post-Covid start, as well as the biggest launch since the live-action version of “The Lion King” in… 2019!

So much for France. Elsewhere, especially in the United States, it is almost even stronger. The film was released across the Atlantic on Thursday November 28 for the Thanksgiving weekend, the most popular of the year for cinema. With $221 million in revenue, the sequel to the adventures of the intrepid Polynesian recorded the best start in history for an animated film and shattered the previous Thanksgiving weekend record previously held by “ Frozen 2” with $125 million.
