This is what we call having a nose: while the distributors of Vaiana 2 had “foreseen” its probable success, the animated film goes beyond their expectations since it would have generated, across the Atlantic, nearly 221 million dollars in revenue in just five days (from Wednesday November 27 to Sunday December 1, 2024), reports Écran Large.
In doing so, Vaiana 2 explodes the biggest score for a film about the period called “Thanksgiving weekend”, far ahead of its predecessors Frozen 2 (125 million in 2019) and Hunger Games: Catching Fire (109 million in 2013).
According to Deadline, the cartoon also recorded the best start of all time for a film released on a Wednesday in the United States, ahead of Super Mario Bros.the film (204 million in 2023).
A super villain teased
Given these figures, it would seem stupid to stop there… and a post-credits scene spotted by Écran Large would also support the hypothesis according to which a Vaiana 3 would already be in the pipeline!
We discover, like Marvel teasers in which “blurry” silhouettes become more and more distinct, Matangi confronted by a Nalo furious at having seen his plans thwarted by Vaiana and Maui.
Our “Disney” file
For Écran Large, this scene would announce a third opus possibly “darker” because it features a powerful antagonist… or is this just a red herring? In any case, there is no doubt that the adventure Vaiana will continue as long as it is also “bankable”.
