Due to several problems during production, the budget for Captain America : Brave New World apparently exploded.
In between Ant-Man 3 et The Marvelswe cannot say that Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is off to a good start. Certainly, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 saved some of the furniture, but overall, the superhero firm’s 2023 will be remembered mostly for its critical and financial failures.
So we are waiting impatiently (or at least out of curiosity) to see how Marvel and Disney will react to try to get things back on track. There will be Deadpool & Wolverineplanned for July 2024, to relaunch the machine (and it seems to be off to a good start) and at the beginning of 2025, it is Captain America 4 by Julius Onah who will really have to reanimate the Avengers and fully introduce Anthony Mackie’s Cap’. Except that in order not to miss your shot, Marvel reportedly blew the film’s budget to some pretty staggering amounts.

Millions, millions and even more millions… The latest failures do not seem to stop Marvel, as evidenced by the budget for the next Captain Americatitled Brave New World. As a reminder, Julius Onah’s film, initially scheduled for July 2024, already had $275 million before filming begins in June 2023 according to several serious sources. But after a first version that was apparently very disappointing and insufficient for Marvel, the film went back into production to add action sequences.
Balance sheet? According to a contact of World of Reelthese reshoots would have cost between 75 and 100 million additional dollars. The total budget of Captain America 4 would therefore be around 350 to 375 million dollars. According to this source, the context would be such that “it’s like they’re making a whole new movie« .
Such changes logically do not bode very well for the Marvel film. However, this new Captain America is terribly anticipated and important for the development of Phase 5 of the MCU, so it is understandable that nothing is left to chance and that Marvel wants to be sure of this particular project.
Between the previous failures and the transfer of power to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), the bet is far from being anecdotal, but will it be worth the candle? Verdict on February 12, 2025 in France, for better or for worse.
