Not so long ago, the last part of the Mad Max saga ended its run at the box office in a very bad way. To try to erase this failure, the film will soon be available on SVOD. So, to better lure us, Warner Bros has decided to make the first ten minutes of the film available: sufficient time to convince us to finance this second chance after the rout in cinemas.
A capricious box office in 2024, between big failures and a comeback
For some time now, it has become quite difficult to understand the rules of the box office, as some films have given us the impression of having the potential to make the greenbacks rain down… before collapsing in the cinemas. Even for directors, it’s a fairly complicated situation to anticipate.. For example, the filmmaker Matthew Vaughn didn’t really see the poor results of his film Argylle comingwho had only had positive feedback during the preview screenings. At the moment, successes and failures are coming one after the other.
This year, it will be impossible to forget the triumph of Denis Villeneuve with the second part of the saga Dune, driven out a few days ago by the latest release from Disney and Pixar studios, Vice-Versa 2. After months of scarcity, the big-eared firm is smiling again with its second most lucrative animated film, for its first weekend of operation, since The Incredibles ! Meanwhile, while some are rejoicing, others are grimacing and, of course, one can only think of George Miller and the total failure of the last part of the saga Mad Max: Furiosa !

Like the previous feature film, Mad Max : Fury Roadthis new foray into the post-apocalyptic universe imagined by George Miller had absolutely everything to please and be a box office success. Unfortunately, the film defied all the odds in its favor and headed straight towards a breakdown to the tune of $160 million or so, the equivalent of its budget.. As we know, you don’t just have to pay back your budget to be profitable and that could well condemn the future of the franchise. In any case, Fury Road headliner Tom Hardy is definitely not confident.
NOW, the feature film can only hope for redemption thanks to availability in SVOD, streaming or rental. In our region, it is Amazon Prime which should offer it this second chance, even if we are still waiting for the availability date to be able to rent it from the catalog. In the meantime, Warner Bros wanted to whet our appetites and show us what we missed out on when it was released in theaters..
