Will Spider-Man soon be back in theaters in the guise of Miles Morales? After the incarnation of Spidey by Tom Holland on the MCU side, another project would be in development and the news should delight fans.
After the success of the Spider-Verse animated films, released in 2018 and 2023, Hollywood is reportedly looking to transpose the adventures of Miles Morales into live action! According to insider Jeff Sneider, who discusses the subject in his podcast The Hot Mica feature film centered on this version of Spider-Man would be in preparation.
A cool new spider on the block?
Sony Pictures is currently looking for the actor who will play the famous Weaver in a live action work. Note that rumors about this project have been circulating for several years. At the start of the year, actor Donald Glover spoke about these rumors, believing that he was now too old to play Miles Morales.
“There will definitely be a live-action Miles Morales eventually; but I’m too old to be Spider-Man now”he confided.
In May 2023, producers Amy Pascal et Avi Arad suggested that a live action film project was in the pipeline. It would therefore be logical, one year later, for production to accelerate with the casting phase. For the moment, no further information has been released on this subject.
Who is Miles Morales?
As a reminder, Miles Morales appeared for the first time in the comic book Ultimate Comics: Fallout #4 in August 2011. The character is the main hero of the monthly series Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Sara Pichelli.
Originally, Miles is a 13-year-old teenager; while going to see his uncle, Aaron Davis, he is bitten by a biologically modified spider coming from Oscorp, which his dear uncle had robbed the day before. Miles therefore obtains his powers in the same way as Peter Parker and then decides to become the new Spider-Man after the death of the superhero 11 months earlier.
Note that Spider-Man New Generation, which starred Miles Morales, won the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2019. The second part, Across the Spider-Verse, followed 4 years later, grossing $690 million in worldwide revenue. In total, the two feature films brought in 1 billion greenbacks. The trilogy will conclude soon with Beyond the Spider-Verse, the release date of which is not yet known.
