this film inspired by a tragic true story made millions of spectators cry

This immense cinema classic, inspired by a tragic true story, can be seen on television this week. Millions of spectators have not recovered.

True stories are gold mines for film producers. Rich in dramatic elements that viewers can relate to, they have inspired some of the most famous films of all time. This is the case of this film which is inspired by a true historical drama and which has shocked millions of spectators around the world. It is possible to see him (again) on television this week.

Released in 1997, this drama was nevertheless an extremely risky bet. It required numerous special effects, faithful reconstructions of the events, but also the writing of a fictional romance, capable of keeping the spectators in suspense with a duo of actors who were, at the time, not as known as they are today. But the gamble paid off extremely well, since Titanic was a real success around the world.

As its name suggests, James Cameron’s film is set in the real sinking of the famous liner, in April 1912, but also tells the romance, imaginary this time, of two passengers: Rose (Kate Winslet), a first-time passenger class corseted by the demands of high society who attempts suicide before being stopped by Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio), a penniless artist, taken at the last minute to leave for the United States.

Their meeting is obvious, their story passionate, but their romance is tragically interrupted by the sinking of the ship, which actually hit an iceberg on the night of April 14 to 15, 1912, resulting in the death of 1,490 to 1,520 passengers.

Should we remember it again? Titanic was an incredible cinematic success: it has grossed more than 2.2 billion dollars since its release, won eleven Oscars, and moved, often to tears, the millions of spectators who discovered the tragic love story of Rose and Jack. Titanic can be seen (again) on television this Sunday, June 23, 2024. TF1 is broadcasting James Cameron’s film from 9:10 p.m. It is also possible to see it on a streaming platform whenever you want, since Disney+ offers it to its subscribers.
