Of all the superhero cars, the Batmobile is the most iconic. His radical reinterpretation for The Dark Knight trilogy, nicknamed Tumbler, is now offered for sale by Warner Bros… but there will only be ten copies priced at a premium.
In the world of sport as in that of cinema, derivative products are an important source of income. The famous company Warner Bros therefore offers a wide range around its various licenses. But the last of them is spectacular to say the least, since it takes the form of a scale 1 Batmobile! Batman’s car has had various forms, sometimes very different, during the long career of the masked vigilante. Here, it is undoubtedly its most radical version that will be reproduced: the Tumbler, a six-wheeled vehicle used by the Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Only 10 examples will be made, and it will even be possible to drive with a Chevrolet Corvette LS3 V8. On the other hand, it will be better to have the fortune of Bruce Wayne to afford this very special toy. The price across the Atlantic has in fact been set at 2.99 million dollars, or nearly 2.750 million euros.
A dummy reactor at the back
This recreation of the Tumbler takes place on a tubular steel chassis, with a bodywork composed in particular of carbon and green fiber. The weight is announced at nearly 2,500 kg, the same as a diesel Range Rover. The 525 hp naturally aspirated V8 will therefore have a more difficult life than in a Chevrolet Corvette, which is significantly lighter. Don’t count on the reactor visible at the rear to escape the Joker or the Penguin: this turbine is purely artificial here. There is no point, moreover, in hoping for road approval for a machine so far removed from a classic automobile. Even if it will be able to accommodate two people on board, this Batmobile promises to be complicated to use in reality. But not sure that this will deter wealthy collectors who have always dreamed of pretending to be Batman…
On the track as well as virtually thanks to simracing, automobiles are a passion that I often experience intensely. What could be better, then, than being able to share it through journalism, by addressing all the facets of this formidable invention and seeking to be of service to the reader at the same time?
