The creature is in the foreground, leading the charge. He’s still a badass, but there’s something about it that also hits you emotionally. Creating a character that you connect with, but also intimidates you, was a challenge. But exciting. I wanted to find another essential piece of cinema that did what Prey did spiritually – pushing the boundaries of the franchise, allowing us to root for a hero we rarely root for – but in a different way. And that turned into this great idea to animate the Predator… – EMPIRE
Inspired by the success of Prey, the filmmaker explained that he wanted to create a film that took the exploration of the Predator universe even further. He thus wanted to highlight a character that we know little about, while offering a new vision of the franchise.

In previous Predator films, we followed the story through the eyes of human hunters like Dutch or Naru. If Elle Fanning confirms the presence of human characters in Badlands, Trachtenberg’s latest revelations suggest that we will discover a new point of view, more centered on the Predator itself.

Badlands isn’t the only Predator project in the works. While the prequel Prey was a huge success, the franchise is growing in number. Another film, announced by 20th Century Fox, will be released in 2025, even before Badlands.
