During a report on the superhero Superman, France 2 broadcast images of the next film, directed by James Gunn. Issue ? They don’t exist.
Don’t talk to James Gunn about France 2, the director risks seeing red… or posting vomiting emojis. The latter actually reacted to a report from the French channel on the famous superhero, concluded with images from the next film, Superman: Legacy (the one that James Gunn is directing to relaunch the DCEU). But there is a big catch: these sequences do not exist and were created with artificial intelligence.
« Huge YOLO this evening in the France 2 news, which chose to close a subject on Superman to show images of the next James Gunn… Sorry, from a fanmade trailer armored with AI found on YouTube », testifies the Internet user Xidius by sharing, on October 19 on X (ex-Twitter), the ubuesque sequence. This edition of the France 2 newspaper is no longer available in replay, but the Internet has a good memory.
Be careful, the images of the Superman film broadcast by France 2 are false
The France 2 channel therefore went to YouTube to illustrate its subject and show the public what the next Superman film will look like. We didn’t have to look far to find the source of the images: they are taken from this video entitled Superman: Legacy – Full Trailer (2025), released on July 16 by Screen Culture (more than 500,000 views). The description is formal: “ Watch a concept trailer for the upcoming Superman: Legacy movie “. It is especially mentioned that “ the audio or images have been significantly altered or digitally generated ».
The fact is that no trailer for Superman: Legacy has not yet been shared by Warner Bros. and DC Comics. James Gunn has contented himself, for the moment, with a few photos, as he did recently by showing the dog Krypto alongside the superhero. There is no doubt that he must not have appreciated the editorial line of France 2, since it shows his film in a bad light, with a very crude rendering. We can clearly see that David Corenswet’s head is added to Henry Cavill’s body. France 2 should have relied on the few promotional tools made available by James Gunn. At best, it’s very clumsy on the channel’s part.
In any case, we are observing a new drift in the use of artificial intelligence which knows how to generate content. They are capable of making anyone believe anything, or of quickly illustrating projects. “ It’s a shame to make a story with images stolen or created by artificial intelligence that have nothing to do with our film! », proclaims Stephane Ceretti, responsible for special effects on Superman: Legacy. For sure, the real trailer will look much better.
