Zack Snyder Reveals Superman’s Destiny in His Snyderverse

We know that Zack Snyder has difficulty drawing a line under the Snyderverse. The filmmaker regularly returns to his plans for the sequel to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) canceled by Warner. Recently, he just revealed what he planned to do with his Superman.

Zack Snyder and the Disappointment

We’ll do it again quickly. In 2013, Zack Snyder is commissioned by Warner to launch a cinema DC connected universe, based on the formula of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He therefore realizes Man of Steela new film about Superman, first feature film in the DCEU. Henry Cavill is chosen to play the Man of Steel. The blockbuster received rather positive feedback, and Zack Snyder becomes the main worker of the DCEU.

Subsequently, he will direct three films within this universe: Batman v Superman (2016) and the two versions of Justice League. Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) even becomes a major film since it gives a glimpse of what the sequel to the DCEU would have been if Zack Snyder had had the green light from Warner to continue. Particularly through its excellent sequence of Knightmare which depicts an apocalyptic future in which Superman goes to the bad side following the death of Lois Lane. The director wanted to take the license to a much darker dimension, in which most of the heroes are killed by Superman, forcing Batman goes back in time to save Lois Lane.

The Destiny of Superman

Zack Snyder has already revealed many elements of his Snyderverse. A more adult dimension, time travel, the hegemony of Darkseid and Superman, the rebellion led by Batman, etc… Lots of beautiful things that we will unfortunately never see. Elements barely touched on in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

In a recent interview with GQ, Zack Snyder returned to his plans regarding Superman. Played by Henry Cavill since Man of Steelthe character made his comeback shortly before the death of the DCEU on the occasion of the post-credits scene Black Adam. Zack Snyder’s Justice League concluded with a glimpse of a Evil Superman fallen under the yoke of Darkseid. The filmmaker has just provided more details regarding the fate of the Kryptonian :

He would succumb to anti-life, be destroyed, be reshaped into Darkseid’s image, then revert, and get his chance at redemption in a clash with Darkseid. If you will, the trilogy would have ended with Superman as the guardian angel getting his humanity back.

Indeed, Zack Snyder had to develop and complete his Snyderverse through three huge blockbusters Justice League. He would thus have developed this dark future, and the change in Superman’s behavior. Obviously, the immense DC hero would then have found the right path in the latest opus of the license. A logical evolution for the Man of Steel.
