the screenwriter says more about his possible sequel to Fincher’s film

Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter of The Social Networkreveals more about his next project, which could serve as a sequel to the David Fincher-directed film.

If Aaron Sorkin has been dabbling in directing for several years (The Great Game, The Chicago Seven, Being the Ricardos), it is as a screenwriter that the author was praised to the skies during the years 2000/2010. Verbal frenzy and political acuity characterize the style of the creator of To the White House And The Newsroom. One of his greatest successes remains the screenplay of The Social Networkon Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, whose power, but also sweet melancholy combined perfectly with the subtle staging of David Fincher.

The Social Network 2: Facebook, the return

Furthermore, almost fifteen years after the release of The Social Network, the film with Jesse Eisenberg could well have a sequel. Indeed, during an interview on the podcast microphone The TownAaron Sorkin announced he was writing a screenplay on how Facebook and social media have influenced democracy over the years following the release of The Social Network :

“Look, yes, I’m going to write about this. I blame Facebook for January 6 [2021, assaut du Capitole par des partisans de Donald Trump, ndlr]. […] Facebook has, among other things, tweaked its algorithm to promote the most controversial content possible. Because that’s what hooks you. This is what brings you to “infinite scrolling” – as they call it at Facebook… There is supposed to be a constant tension at Facebook between growth and integrity. There are not any. There is only growth.”

Sources from Hollywood Reporterclose to Aaron Sorkin, would have confirmed that the author would work on a scenario linked to The Social Network. However, the project would not be still in its infancy and no studio would be attached to it for the moment. Note that Aaron Sorkin for a time dabbled with a scenario about the events of January 6, 2021, which ultimately did not come to fruition. If elements of this project could be found in this possible continuation of The Social Network, these are indeed two different creations. To be continued.
