DIRECT. Atalanta-OM: Marseille is logically led (1-0)

Lookman crucifies OM! Following a Marseille attack phase, Atalanta recovered and quickly launched a counterattack. Found on the left, Lookman goes towards the center, fakes Kondogbia and tries his luck at the edge of the area. His shot is blocked by Gigot and heads towards Lopez’s small net!

As a boss, Gigot keeps Ruggeri’s dangerous cross away but the ball comes back to Koopmeiners who tries to make a breakthrough. It is Mbemba’s turn to make a decisive intervention.

Kondogbia recovers a ball in the Italian camp, gains meters before hitting from distance. His attempt is unscrewed.

OM reacted with a great combination between Merlin and Aubameyang. The full-back attempts a low cross but De Roon watches closely.

What an opportunity for Atalanta! The corner leads to a mix-up which benefits Scamacca whose flat foot crashes onto the bar. De Ketelaere is on the receiving end of the header but Lopez relaxes and makes an exceptional save!

Found by a good delivery from De Ketelaere, Koopmeiners takes his chance at 30m. Gigot deflects the shot which goes out for a corner.

De Ketelaere performs a little number and eliminates Balerdi on the right of the area before crossing back. Mbemba quickly clears the ball and saves OM.

Zappacosta and Lookman combine at the entrance to the area, allowing the full-back to attempt a low shot at the entrance to the area. It’s too focused to worry Lopez.

Atalanta’s ability to press high is impressive at the start of the match. The Marseillais are constantly forced to extend to avoid losing the ball in their camp.

Following a good pressing phase, De Ketelaere recovers the leather in the Marseille camp and immediately alerts Scamacca in the area. The latter unleashes a heavy cross shot with first intention which flirts with Lopez’s post.

Veretout scratches a ball in the opposing camp and serves Ndiaye who tries to curl in from 25m. The leather goes wide of Musso’s goal.

Ndiaye enters the axis and eliminates several opponents before reversing towards Merlin on the left. The full-back’s center is pushed back by Hien into the area.

OM tries to calm the pace in their camp before playing long with Lopez towards Aubameyang. The Italian defense is well placed and wards off the danger before Kondogbia recovers. The deep opening in the middle is completely missed.

Atalanta plays high and stifles OM at the start of the match. Gasset’s men suffer to chain the possession times.

Koopmeiners is found between the lines, eliminates Balerdi before coming up against Gigot in the area. De Ketelaere followed well and eliminated Lopez before moving on from a tight angle but the goalkeeper was responsive to push the ball away for a corner!

De Ketelaere accelerates on the right and crosses back towards Scamacca. The latter put it back for Koopmeiners but Mbemba took the ball away from him as he was going to take a shot. In the process, OM plans a counterattack but Aubameyang is still ahead of Musso.

As in the first leg, OM favored direct play. From the central circle, Clauss alerts Aubameyang in depth but Musso comes out well.

At the top of its group ahead of Sporting, Atalanta found the Portuguese club in the round of 16 (1-1, 2-1) before creating the feat against Liverpool (3-0, 0-1) in the round previous.

Coming out in second place in a group made up of Brighton, Ajax and AEK Athens, Marseille defeated Shakhtar Donetsk (2-2, 3-1) in the play-offs before eliminating Villarreal in the 8th round (4-0, 1-3) and Benfica in the quarters (1-2, 1-0 + 4-2 tab).

If OM want to qualify for the final, they will have to overcome the difficulties encountered away from home: in Ligue 1, Marseille is 17th out of 18 away from home. In the Europa League, the Marseille club only won one match out of eleven away from home, against AEK Athens in the group stage.

Chancel Mbemba scored the equalizer in the first leg with a sublime long-range strike.

If OM was rested this weekend, the Ligue 1 match against Reims having been postponed, Atalanta was on deck last Monday. With a reshuffled eleven, the Dea defeated Salernitana (2-1) and currently occupies 5th place in Serie A.

For its part, Atalanta is without three defenders: Sead Kolasinac, Rafael Toloi and Emil Holm, all three injured. Usually the holder, Giorgio Sclavini, uncertain, is also preserved at kick-off.
