Despite the devastating criticism addressed to his film, Zack Snyder wanted to defend “Rebel Moon, part 2” by sending a message to Netflix subscribers.
After the disappointment of the first part, Rebel Moon did not manage to correct the situation with its second part, entitled L’Entaileuse. In addition to killer reviews, Zack Snyder’s diptych – supposed to open the way to a prolific science fiction saga – is off to a disappointing start, and seems to doom the sequels planned by the American director.
The finalized version has not yet been released
During of an interview, Zack Snyder, however, felt that a definitive opinion could not be formulated until the finalized version of the two films had been released. A reference to the director’s cuts of Rebel Moon, supposed to reveal an hour of new images per film, and in particular scenes of violence and sex intended for an adult audience.
No broadcast date for these new montages has yet been announced by the platform. But several actors of the film met during the promotion of part 2 confirmed to us that they were able to attend the screening of director’s cut of the first part. A launch during the summer is therefore hoped for by die-hard Zack Snyder fans.
“You may or may not like my films…”
Despite everything, Zack Snyder wanted to face the criticism. His defense mainly consisted of defending the author’s vision of his films, going so far as to insinuate that viewer ratings could impact the creative freedom of Netflix directors in the future:
You may or may not like my films, but at least they are mine. A vote against me is a vote for audience testing. If you say ‘Snyder sucks’, you also say: “Give me more audience tests! I want Happy Meals!” (sic)
Despite his status as a cult director, it seems unlikely that his words will resonate with the platform’s subscribers. It’s also a fact: his three lowest-rated films in his filmography (Rebel Moon 1 and 2 and Army of the Dead) on AlloCiné are three Netflix productions!
