The master of suspense is back! M. Night Shyamalan has just revealed the trailer for his next film, Trap, scheduled for August 7. This psychological thriller promises to keep us in suspense with a tense plot and surprising twists and turns, as the director of The Sixth Sense and Glass knows how to do so well.

A Machiavellian trap closes on a father and his daughter during a concert

Trap follows the story of a father and his daughter going to a pop music concert. But what was supposed to be a moment of complicity and relaxation will turn into a nightmare. Indeed, while leaving to go get something to drink, the father discovers that the police are deployed en masse around the room.

The reason ? A serial killer would hide among the spectators of the concert, which in reality turns out to be a trap to capture him.

Josh Hartnett headlines, alongside Shyamalan’s daughter

To carry this gripping thriller, M. Night Shyamalan chose Josh Hartnettnoticed recently in Oppenheimer. The rest of the cast includes Hayley Mills, Rolando Davila-Beltran, Ariel Donoghue and Allison Pill.

The director also offers a role to his own daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, who plays the singer giving the concert at the heart of the plot. An exciting opportunity for her, as her father confides:

It was really a great opportunity for Saleka to embody this fictional character (…) I found her voice very honest and pure while playing someone else“.

Shyamalan returns to his art of manipulating the viewer

Accustomed to films with supernatural tones since his beginnings, Shyamalan has reconnected with the psychological thriller and his taste for twists and turns. The trailer, cleverly orchestrated, starts like a family chronicle before gradually revealing its true, distressing face.

The filmmaker has fun blur the lines and disorient the viewer, true to his reputation as a master of manipulation. The end of the trailer shows us to what extent our first reading of the images was erroneous. Enough to arouse our curiosity!

A film already subject to numerous theories

While Trap is not yet released, fans are already building up many theories on the networks. Some imagine that it could be a disguised sequel to Sixth Sensethe film that revealed Shyamalan to the general public in 1999.

It must be said that the director cultivates mystery and leaves ample room for interpretation in his works. Its multiple false leads and twists give reason to speculate on the twists it has in store for us this time.

Response on August 7 in cinemas, with Trap which announces itself as one of the notable films of 2024, for both Shyamalan admirers and thrill-seekers. The countdown begins !
