The collaboration between Barry Baltus and the RW Racing GP team came to an end with the final Grand Prix of the 2024 season in Barcelona. After four seasons together, the Belgian made the choice on the sidelines of this last event to change scenery, to join Fantic Racing. However, he did not obtain the satisfaction he hoped for in conclusion.
Like his difficult season, Barry Baltus concluded the last Grand Prix of the 2024 season in Barcelona with an eighteenth place. Starting from the twelfth position on the starting grid, the No. 7 compromised his chances of scoring big points from the start of the event, due to a chaotic start.
He then took advantage of a few racing events – including the fall of his garage neighbor, Zonta van der Goorbergh, to recover a few places and make his way through the peloton. However, he was the victim of significant damage to his tires at the end of the race, and then suffered the attacks of his opponents without being able to resist.
A sad conclusion after four years punctuated by ups and downs, from which he will nevertheless retain a lot of positives. “It wasn't the race weekend I had imagined to end the season, but I certainly did my best. The first part of the race went pretty well, but in the last laps I had a big hit on the tire. After four years with this team, our time together comes to an end. I want to thank everyone and we will see each other next year from another team. »
Barry Baltus finished the season 21st in the final Drivers' standings with a total of 40 points. A score partly fueled by his podium in Qatar. This second place earned him twenty points, half of those he scored in the entire championship. However, his counter exceeds that of his teammate 22nd in the general classification with 31 units.
« It was an emotional weekend, but that's life, we share the good and the bad times together, poursuit Barry Baltus. I had a great time with RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP and now I'm looking forward to the next adventure. »
