Let's talk MotoGP: You'll never believe this statistic

What David Alonso is doing in Moto3 is just astonishing. It's unheard of for us to get along. Currently on a streak of six consecutive victories, the Colombian is following in the footsteps of the greatest drivers of all time. He has already broken the record for the most wins in a season in the smallest category – previously held by Valentino Rossi, and is now looking at the most consecutive wins in a small displacement – also owned by Valentino Rossi. This is all well and good, but there is another statistic, which is even harder to believe!

In another dimension

This concerns his career win total. As you may know, David Alonso has only been in Moto3 full-time since last season, and yet he is already challenging the biggest names in modern MotoGP. With his victory in Malaysia, he now has 17 world championship successes. It's staggering, and only six current drivers have more than him! Only six, you read that right.

Déjà, there is Marc Marquez, of course, with 88 Sunday victories. For obvious reasons, we will only take into account Grands Prix, excluding Sprints. This would be unfair to Alonso. Behind him comes directly Pecco Bagnaia,
38 victories in all categories including that of Sepang. Then, in third place comes
Maverick Vinales with 26 unitsand the Spaniard is starting to have trouble: remember that he is still Moto3 world champion, and began his career in 2011. Then, two drivers are tied: Alex Rins et
Jorge Martin
with 18 successes each. If Rins was never titled, he often came close to the Grail. Martin, on the other hand, is a Moto3 world champion and a future MotoGP champion, barring a huge turnaround.

Then comes David Alonso with 17 units. You're not dreaming, all the drivers you can think of now have won less often than him! Well, it should still be noted that he also shares this honor. Johann Zarcofirst, also sounded the Marseillaise 17 times. But he too has been there for a very long time: he is vice-world champion in 125cc in 2011, and double Moto2 champion in 2015 then 2016. This is also the case of Brad Binder, titled in Moto3, and of Miguel Oliveira, who, a much like Alex Rins, was never able to win a title – even though he deserved at least one, I'm not going to say which one so as not to offend a certain British pilot.

Champions already in the rearview mirror

I can't believe that Alonso only has one victory less than Jorge Martin in his career even though he only has two years of seniority. Worse, he has won more often than Fabio Quartararo, MotoGP champion and 12-time Grand Prix winner! It's better than Alex Marquez (12 successes), even though he is a double Moto3 and then Moto2 world champion and he already has 12 years of world racing under his belt.

Above all, this is one more than Pedro Acosta (16)another double world champion who can be directly compared to David Alonso. Clearly, the Colombian is heading towards legend. In addition to incredible talent, he has a strong personality that could do great good for our favorite championship.

Do you think that David Alonso will be able to convert his exploits in Moto3 next year in the very tough Moto2 championship? Tell me in the comments!

Jorge Martin only has one more, as he also heads towards the title. If Alonso confirms in Moto2, it will hurt a lot. Photo: Michelin Motorsport
