MotoGP Australia J3, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati/4): “I could have fought with Pecco Bagnaia”

What a mind-blowing performance from Fabio Di Giannantonio this Sunday in Australia. While he is still injured in the shoulder – a physical problem that has been hanging around since Austria, “Diggia” once again made headlines with a magnificent fourth place at Phillip Island. However, yesterday, he said he was struggling even in a straight line, unable to huddle behind the bubble due to searing pain. His effort was not rewarded with a podium, of course, but he flew to Thailand with much more serenity.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was very happy at the finish, and yet he thinks that perhaps there was better to do.
« I’m very happy, of course. But there is still a bittersweet feeling at the end of the day. We had one of the best races of the year, but with a better starting position I could have fought with Pecco Bagnaia » affirmed the Italian after the Grand Prix in the columns of Speedweek. Remember that he only started 12th, which represents a huge comeback.

In the race, at one point, “Diggia” saw himself slow down, then get back into the right rhythm. This slump may cost him the podium, and he explains this.
« I must say that I made a small mistake. We planned to use different maps during the race. But because of a change, at one point I was missing a second per lap. I went back, and I was fast again. Without that, I might have been able to catch Pecco, he finished less than three seconds ahead » he continued.

It was the penultimate Grand Prix of the season for Di Giannantonio. In fact, he made the decision to have surgery just after the Thai Grand Prix, because that damn shoulder hasn’t recovered for several months. Is it a good decision, after this performance in Australia? The main person concerned is sure of it. « We have to remember the positive, we are back at the highest level. It was my best race after the injury. I’m going to Thailand without a charm, so of course I’d like to do more shopping. But you have to be smart and do what’s best for the future » he concluded.

What do you think of his decision? Tell us in the comments!
