Fitness Boxing 3, do we take the same ones and start again? – TEST

Four years after the second episode of the series, which in the meantime had the right to a spin-off on Ken the Boy Who Lived and another on Hatsune Mikuthe “game” (quotes are important) boxing edited by Nintendo returns in a new episode mainline titled, you guessed it, Fitness Boxing 3 (we imagine the many hours of brainstorming necessary to find this name). For those of you who were starting to go in circles in your daily workouts, the release of this title is an opportunity to discover new ways to sweat in front of your television. But is it enough? ?

People who played one of the first two Fitness Boxing will not be disoriented, and I can only warmly refer you to the test of the second episode by Lucky in order to have a more detailed presentation of the concept. The heart of the title therefore lies in daily training, of customizable duration and intensity, during which you will have to box in rhythm to work your muscles and your cardio a little. This last part will greatly depend on your involvement: Fitness Boxing 3 will ask you to use your whole body, marking the rhythm with your legs in addition to punching, but in the absence of an accessory that can detect this, nothing prevents you from boxing statically, which will drastically reduce the interest of the title from a sporting point of view.

I study them Imagineer has nevertheless thought of the least motivated people as well as those who do not have the use of their legs by including a new mode entitled “seated boxing“. As its name suggests, it allows you to take part in the workouts in a seated manner, which will probably not make you sweat but allows a wider audience to appreciate the program offered. Since this mode only offers one type of hit, it also theoretically allows you to enjoy the experience like a more classic rhythm game where you have to tap on a drum (think of a Taiko no Tatsujin): but one might wonder what would really be the point of playing this way in a title with such a poor musical selection, both in terms of quantity and quality, and where even the licensed (le thème de Ghostbusters, I’m Still Standing…) look like MIDI covers that you would buy in 2004 by sending MTV to 83333.

A cruel lack of interest

And then, in reality, even classic mode could technically be played this way: although it offers different moves (jabs, uppercuts, crochets), the detection of these does not differ in any way and you can very easily shake the controller to validate each of the actions. Only the dodges really remain to vary the experience… or not, given that even these are activated by a simple quick movement of the controller. We are far from the variety and interest of a Ring Fit Adventure and we feel that the studio has favored the detection of timing rather than that of movements, in order to ensure of the least frustrating experience possible for the player, which is to the detriment of the interest.

Players who are only there for boxing and who don't care about the rhythm part will be able to try their hand at the brand new mode.glove training“, which allows you to let off steam without having to worry about the music: your trainer will give you gloves to punch in and your only constraint will be the movements and the fist with which to strike. This mode allows for slightly more intense workouts, because the strokes follow each other more quickly (with a finale asking you to let off some steam): it is therefore a bit of a shame that only three workouts are available in this setting. Finally, the last real novelty of this Fitness Boxing 3 lies in the arrival of one-on-one training sessions with the trainer of your choice, from a selection of six coaches, each more poorly dubbed than the other: during these privileged moments, you will have the chance to 'hear the hot takes fitness of your favorite character. If the idea is amusing, one might wonder who it is aimed at: are we really buying a Fitness Boxing for his lore ?

I feel like I've made a litany of criticisms about this title, but I have to admit having still enjoyed launching it every day for a short sessionwhich is the objective of the game. The dynamic presence of my coach and the small successes ingame motivated me during the duration of this test to play it daily for around thirty minutes. Being already a bit sporty, I didn't really notice any noticeable improvement in my physical abilities but I still appreciated the fact of moving around a little before my evening meal, like a little ritual. And I can imagine that this could help some people to start or maintain physical activity, given the very simple side of setting up a session (in comparison to a Ring Fit Adventure or an activity practiced with a virtual reality headset, which are my two points of comparison). However, the relative redundancy as well as the lack of depth of the gameplay means that I would not continue this experience beyond, but this will depend above all on your motivation as a player.

And Fitness Boxing 3 will offer a solid experience to those wishing to find a reason to do a little exercise daily, the very limited nature of the gameplay as well as the vile music offered make it difficult to maintain the motivation to indulge in it in the long term . Hard to recommend this title at full price compared to games like Just Dance or Ring Fit Adventurewhich remain more interesting sportingly and playfully.
