Canal +’s statement is quite clear: “We inform you that from the next monthly renewal date of your subscription on 01/15/2025, and in accordance with your General Subscription Conditions, your subscription will be renewed for successive periods of one month. To continue to provide you with the best experience, the monthly price excluding promotions and options of your subscription will be increased by €2/month, when your contract is renewed.“.

Which offers are affected?

The offers targeted by this increase are numerous. Are concerned:

  • the Canal+ live/replay offer at €29.99/month
  • the Canal+ offer (-26 years old) at €15.99/month
  • the Canal+ Ciné Series offer at €41.99/month
  • the Canal+ Ciné Series offer (-26 years old) at €21.99/month
  • the Canal+ Sport offer at €47.99/month
  • the Canal+ Sport offer (-26 years old) at €24.99/month
  • the Canal+ Friends & Family offer at €81.99/month

The most interesting thing in this story is rather the timing of this generalized price increase. In fact, the group is just preparing to lose several services in its catalog, including Disney channels and content, as well as the Press Pass. The justification for such a price increase is therefore difficult to swallow, since it is not accompanied by an addition of content, but rather a withdrawal of it. Subscribers will therefore have to pay more for more limited access to SVOD streaming services. As a reminder, in 2022, the increase in VAT from 10 to 20% was the main argument for a first increase in prices, but at the time, offers including SVOD platforms were spared. This time, they are the main ones affected.
