A violent fire ravaged the framework of a 200 m2 gite this Monday in Castelnau-Rivière-Basse. Firefighters managed to contain the flames and save a nearby home.

The firefighters of Sdis 65 were called in emergency this Monday, July 24 for a house fire declared in the town of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, road to Saint-Lanne. When they arrived on the scene, the firefighters of Maubourguet found that the frame of a building of approximately 200 m2 was totally ablaze.

From then on, significant fire rescue resources and reinforcements were hired by the Sdis to contain the disaster. Large scale, tanks, vans, and no less than 23 firefighters in total were mobilized on the intervention. The gendarmes of the company of also went on the spot.

Holidaymakers relocated

Thanks to the rapid intervention of the firefighters, the main residence of the owners of the premises was preserved from the flames. The damaged building, located only a few meters away, housed a gîte where a dozen Belgian holidaymakers had recently been staying. Luckily, none of them were in the lodge when the fire broke out, and no one was hurt. All were relocated with friends. Only the owners were bothered by the toxic fumes and were examined by firefighters.

“For now, we do not know the exact origin of this fire,” said the gendarmerie. According to the first observations made by the firefighters, the fire would have started in a technical room where the boiler was located.
