After more than 24 hours of anguish and the triggering of the kidnapping alert, Eya, 10, kidnapped by her father and an accomplice in the suburbs of Grenoble, was found in Denmark. A race against time was on.

It was only on Thursday evening that the judicial authorities decided to trigger the kidnapping alert. Immediately, the photos of Eya and his father are broadcast in all the media. The investigators lean quickly for two leads: a possible departure of the girl and her father for Tunisia or Sweden, the two countries which appear on the passport of the father, Khaled Sassi, a 53-year-old man. This is why a European arrest warrant had been issued.

He was arrested, he did not surrender
Eya and his father were arrested on Friday May 26, 2023 around 2:30 p.m. in Rødbyhavn, south-east Denmark during a border check. It is a port where ferries arrive from Puttgarden, in northeastern Germany. “According to the messages I received, it went very well indeed”, indicated Friday evening on BFMTV the public prosecutor of Grenoble Eric Vaillant. He continues: “The father did not surrender at all. He was really expected by the services in Denmark which were on the alert thanks to information from the Grenoble police”.
Once Eya was abducted, the little girl, the father and the accomplice took the direction of Switzerland, then continued their journey in Germany before entering the soil of Denmark. Was he considering a new life in Sweden, far from the mother? It is too early to tell.
Eya, his father and the accomplice will be handed over to France by Denmark in the next few hours, if this is not already the case. The accomplice was “a friend of his [le père, NDLR] who had been living in France for some time already,” said public prosecutor Eric Vaillant.

Eya was able to talk to her mom on the phone
The little girl was able to speak to her mother on the phone via the French consulate in Denmark. She “is doing as well as possible after such events,” said the magistrate.
