After 16 albums and 42 years of career, Voïvod is now entitled to the symphonic treatment.
This is the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM) who approached the members of the group with the project of a concert. When we came back from tour, Michel [Langevin, le batteur] had a message on his answering machine. The symphony orchestra was looking to join us to create an event together
told Dominic Laroche on the microphone of End PM.
If the general public had perhaps never heard of Voïvod, metal fans know the group well. It has the status of a legendary group, a pioneer of metal in Quebec. He once opened for Metallica.
The talent of the musicians is also recognized. The chef who will lead theOSM Dina Gilbert can attest to this. She already knew Daniel Mongrain since they did their doctorates at the same time at the University of Montreal. We forget that in circles other than classical, there are virtuosos, and Daniel is one
. She promises a show once in a lifetime
.
Both from Mauricie, Daniel Mongrain and Dominique Laroche joined the group long after its founding in Jonquière in 1982. Daniel Chewy
Mongrain in 2008, then in 2014, the group became even a little more Mauritian when Dominic Rocky
Laroche joined. Since then, the group has appeared on the stage of the biggest metal music festivals in the world.
Dominic Laroche also believes that he will have a great moment on stage. What he has seen of the arrangements so far excites him. It gave me chills all over to hear that. I imagine that with the orchestra and nearly 70 musicians on stage, it will be something that will be unique
.
Unique also because of the staging. The concert is not held at the symphonic house, but rather at the Wilfrid-Pelletier hall, more suitable for visual projections. Both musically and visually, you will be in the world of Voïvod
recently confided Dina Gilbert in an interview on the show There will always be culture.

Drummer Michel “Away” Langevin designed all of the album covers. Over time, Voïvod has created a unique visual universe.

Will classical music lovers find what they’re looking for? Voïvod is very close to certain passages borrowed from the classic. I can quote Bartók, Stravinsky. There was a little bit of familiar ground. Those who are more inclined towards classic, and not metal, will realize that the two universes are very close to each other
