According to the statistical report of Senegal’s external accounts, remittances from Senegalese abroad reached 1,842 billion CFA francs in 2023 compared to 1,600 billion CFA francs in 2022. This shows the continued effort of the diaspora to finance the economy, explained in the columns of Seneweb François Sène, the national director of the BCEAO for Senegal.
A recent study by the BCEAO and the ANSD showed that 79% of these 1,800 billion remain oriented towards consumption. This he deplored, believing that the ideal “would be that these significant financial flows from the sons and daughters of the country could finance development in order to allow Senegal to have more inclusive growth”.
The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) published, this Thursday, January 23, 2025, the statistical report of Senegal’s external accounts devoted to the examination of the balance of payments for the year 2023 .
