Two young hunters were found dead in a gabion in the Cotentin Marshes on Wednesday, January 22, in the evening. Aged 21, they were from Saint-Lois. Their relatives raised the alarm around 9 p.m., worrying about not having any news of them.
The duo left in a gabion located in the Saint-Fromond marsh, near Saint-Jean-de-Daye.
-Firefighters from SDIS 50 as well as the police went to the scene and were only able to note the deaths. “They were discovered unresponsive. We have accidental leads on the causes of death“ said Gauthier Poupeau, public prosecutor of Coutances.
An investigation is underway to determine the causes and circumstances of the deaths. However, it could be carbon monoxide poisoning. A motor pump was found near the bodies.
“There are parts of the marshes that are very flooded at the moment, perhaps they went to pump out the water that was in their gabioncomments Gérard Bamas, president of the Manche hunters’ federation. According to him, gas accidents are rare in gabions, but he remembers an explosion in a hunting cabin a few years ago.
In the Channel, 14,000 hunters are recorded, of which 6,000 hunt waterfowl.
