After carrying out detailed studies, the competent authorities began land acquisition procedures for the construction of the railway line to the Nador West Med port, reveals the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh.
The railway is one of the conditions for the success of this major project, argues the minister during a meeting of the Committee on Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, Environment and Sustainable Development at the House of Representatives. representatives.
The new single-track line, which extends over 52 kilometers with a planned speed of 160 km/h, will connect the port to the town of Selouane, 12 km from Nador, the eponymous capital of the province. The project provides for connection with the existing network at the Selouane station, the Nador West Med marshalling yard and its terminal facilities.

The completion of this project, whose work progress has reached 17%, will require credits of around 4.3 billion dirhams, specifies Mr. Kayouh in a presentation on the government program in the sector. transport.
-In the section devoted to railway infrastructure, the minister announces investments of around 96 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) by 2030. Some 53 billion dirhams are dedicated to the construction of the Kenitra-Marrakech LGV and the development of the regional rail transport on the existing network.
Also, 29 billion dirhams will go to the acquisition of 18 high-speed trains and 150 multi-service trains, while 14 billion dirhams are allocated to the construction or rehabilitation of around forty stations and maintaining the efficiency of the national network.

These projects are part of a broader development plan for the rail transport network by 2040. The strategy aims to connect 43 cities compared to 23 currently, 87% of the population compared to 51% currently, 12 airports international ports and 12 ports by rail compared to one airport and six ports currently.
