In January 2025, the Vaucluse Department opened a new departmental health center in Sorgues. The latter is part of a plan by the Departmental Council mobilized against medical desertification. Since 2022, three establishments have been built, such as in Avignon, Cadenet and Apt. That of Sorgues, located in the city center, was designed to meet the needs of the local population, particularly in an area classified as under-density of doctors.

Housed in a former bank premises, the Sorgues center has 130 m² renovated, including three consultation rooms, a waiting room and a reception area. This new development was carried out in partnership with the Town Hall of Sorgues, in order to guarantee optimal working conditions for healthcare professionals and to receive patients in a modern and functional setting. Work notably took place throughout 2024.
The center currently accommodates only one employed doctor, Dr Philippe Narcante, a former general practitioner in Saône-et-Loire. “Sorgues, like the entire department, is classified as under-density of doctors. The city is also categorized as a complementary action zone by the Regional Health Agency,” underlines Romain Natale, head of the Departmental Health Network. The latter adds that he is actively working on the installation of other salaried doctors, with the objective of welcoming up to three doctors in this center in the long term.
-Thanks to this initiative, the Department has already enabled many Vauclusians to find a treating doctor. “In the first three departmental health centers, 25,000 consultations have already been carried out, which has enabled 3,000 Vauclusians to find a treating doctor », specifies Romain Natale.
The Sorgues center is open three days a week, i.e. Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday all day. Consultations can be booked by telephone or via the Doctolib platform. In addition, the center is fully accessible to people with reduced mobility, an essential point to guarantee access to care for all.
