In an article published online yesterday, Saturday January 4, and entitled “I chose Morocco with my heart”Zakaria El Ouahdi spoke about his ambition to join the Atlas Lions in the short term.
The player underlined, responding to a question about potential competition for the right-back position within the Lair: “Even if I am guaranteed that I am 100% sure of obtaining a starting place with the Red Devils, while this chance is only 10% for Morocco, I would have difficulty changing my choice. I want to do everything I can to have my chance with Morocco. »
The Moroccan-Belgian then spoke of his exceptional journey with the U23s during the Paris Olympic Games and the U23 CAN: “ Honestly, I won Olympic bronze with Morocco and I also won the African Cup with the U23s. I have always worn this jersey with pride, I made this choice with my heart. It’s not like me to suddenly slam that door behind me. »
“As soon as my performance turned out to be good, the train left”
Regarding his experience during the Olympic tournament and his relationship with the team executives, Zakaria El Ouahdi added: “It was a fantastic experience. […] I was with big stars like Hakimi, who at 26 (editor’s note: 25) already had success at Real, Dortmund, Inter and PSG, top scorer Rahimi and goalkeeper Munir in the team . These were players that I had always supported in front of my TV before. They also turned out to be very modest boys. »
“Hakimi immediately put me at ease and when my performance on the left was good, the train took off”he added.
Zakaria El Ouahdi played 18 games in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring one goal and providing one assist. His club Genk is currently first in the Belgian championship with 42 points collected in 20 matches, one point ahead of Club Brugge.
