DIC discovers another scandal, new arrest

On the front line in the fight for accountability, the Criminal Investigation Division (Dic) conducts its operations at a breakneck pace. As reported Liberationthe Public Treasury was heavily impacted by fraud involving false receipts, causing damage of several million FCFA.

According to Liberationthe facts were discovered by the head of the collection office of the Tax Services Center of Grand-Dakar. This discovery led to the opening of an administrative investigation, followed by a complaint filed by the state judicial agent. The case was entrusted to the Criminal Investigation Division (Dic), which arrested a tax officer named Ablaye Malé.

According to the revelations of Liberationduring his hearing by investigators, Ablaye Malé confessed, recognizing the facts with which he is accused. However, he claims to have acted alone, a version that the planned judicial investigation will have to confirm or refute. The newspaper Liberation also highlights a troubling aspect of this case: this is the third case of similar fraud recorded within this same tax center. Identical facts were in fact reported in 2009 and 2014. However, in these two previous cases, although agents were formally identified, no complaint was filed.
