Corrèze: when seniors review the highway code

In collaboration with the city's CCAS, the ADER Mobilité association recently organized in Tulle, a free workshop dedicated to seniors. Information on the evolution of signaling, the gestures and reflexes to adopt or even an experiment via a driving simulator were offered.

10 seniors review the code

In a relaxed but also studious atmosphere, ten seniors are present, an almost essentially female audience “I am the only (man) in the group, in any case, I am well surrounded” jokes Jean, 82 years old, he got his license…65 years ago !

“We talk a lot about elderly people and their difficulty in driving, so it seemed interesting to me to come and take stock.”

Yvonne 4 years older outbid: “ It is necessary to know the dangers son the road, know how to interpret signs ».

The question of compulsory medical examination?

In a society with increasing life expectancy, the place of seniors on the road is now debated, and it is often a question of legislating on a obligatory medical examination :

“I'm not against it,” explains Nicole, who obtained her license in 1958, “but I'm very careful because there are people aged 50 who are not able to drive and there are others, at my age, 84, who I consider capable of driving.”

Remaining in control of one's conduct…it is also know your own abilities believes Jean: “pAt the moment I feel in good shape and I don't think I'm a danger, but I still notice that around me people who drive make me un little afraid. So maybe I'll go through that myself, omaybe always tendency tohang and tord ».

A first for a long time in Corrèze

Pour José Ribeiro, director of ADER mobilitythe association at the origin of this workshop, “the interest of this type of afternoon is a review of the highway code, new developments but above all it is encourage vigilance at any age »

“We are not here to judge, we are not here to take away their license, we are here to awaken them to tell them, it is very very very important to share the road ».

This workshop is a first for a long time in Corrèze. ADER Mobilité calls on local authorities to develop them throughout the department, like the Dordogne and Terrassonnais, where each year, around ten are organized.
