In this new commission from Radio France, Samy Thiébault is interested in limits, a place of deployment of art, of humanity in the dialogue it opens with the Other.
“What is Commitment? The term can cover various realities, but at sea or in the mountains, it refers to venturing into a hostile environment. For a surfer, it means getting into the water in perilous conditions, for a mountaineer, approaching a summit in sometimes extreme ways. This dialectic between humanity and nature is the very expression of the artistic movement, even of the gesture, of the musical feeling itself, not to say spiritual. This encounter with the “Crests” supposes a feeling of both total abandonment and extreme consciousness, this “full emptiness” of which Eastern wisdom speaks and which expresses so well the sensation of the absolute, of awakening, of love. This encounter with peace and paradox as living hearts, unfolds through rhythms, styles and different encounters, written specifically for the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor Bastien Still. The movement is broken down into four parts: that of the “Troubled Dawns” where the gaze scrutinizes the challenge proposed to it, the moment of starting “Towards the sea”, that of the arrival of fear and contemplation in contemplating in the distance “towards the earth” our abandoned comfort, then finally the liberation of the interior movement “towards the inside. » Samy Thiébault
