His journey more than three years after his death is dissected by an investigating judge from the national cold-case center in . We have known since September 2021 that François Vérove, former gendarme of the Republican Guard in , who then became a police officer in Bouches-du-Rhône and , has a very mysterious criminal background.

This week, Paris Match revealed that investigations were underway to find out if François Vérove could be involved in a murder that occurred in 1990 in the Paris region… The national center for unsolved cases is investigating because a victim who died in Saint-Aubin in Essonne had been killed with a bullet casing similar to that used by the gendarmes, according to our colleagues. The national center is informed of these facts…”As part of the case bringing together various facts attributable to François Vérove“, confirmed the Nanterre public prosecutor's office.

François Vérove, wanted for more than three decades, was nicknamed the “Grêlé” because of the scars on his skin, signs seen on his face by witnesses or victims. In September 2021, while the Parisian investigating judge was looking for the “pockmarked”, DNA tests were decided on former gendarmes assigned to the Paris region in the 80s and 90s. It is in this context that François Vérove had to go to the PJ in Montpellier – because he lived in 2021 in Hérault – for a genetic sample. He preferred to kill himself in an apartment in Grau-du-Roi. His DNA was indeed that of the “Grélé”, sought by all the French police for almost 35 years. If the accused is dead, the investigation to find out his criminal history and possibly identify other victims continues…
