The search for a new coach for the Red Devils is underway after the departure of Domenico Tedesco. Talks have begun with Julen Lopetegui (58), the experienced Spanish manager who was fired earlier this month from West Ham United.
Vincent Mannaert’s search to find the new coach of the Devils has intensified since the departure of Domenico Tedesco was made official this Friday. Several names have already been mentioned to replace him.
But this Sunday, The Newspaper and the DH confirm the trail of Sacha Tavolieri by affirming that the Belgian Union is discussing with a man we had not yet spoken about: Julen Lopetegui, coach with an impressive CV, fired from West-Ham at the beginning of January. He succeeded David Moyes, but failed to lead the Hammers to better performances.
When he left, the London club was in a disappointing fourteenth place in the Premier League, far from expectations. However, the Spaniard enjoys great consideration in the world of football.
-Julen Lopetegui, the ideal candidate for the Devils?
He has experience at the highest level, both at club and international level. Lopetegui was previously Spain manager and managed Real Madrid and Sevilla. With the Andalusians, he won the Europa League in 2020.
The Belgian Union seems to have found in Lopetegui a candidate used to working with stars. After a disappointing 2024 and Tedesco’s dismissal, finding a coach who can get the most out of new emerging talent is crucial.
Whether Lopetegui actually becomes the new national coach will depend on the negotiations. Names like Thierry Henry, Rudi Garcia and Mark van Bommel have also been circulating.
