A man in his twenties was arrested and placed in police custody on Friday evening in Nîmes as part of the investigation into the attack on a jogger, seriously injured by several stab wounds in a park in Gard , we learned this Saturday, January 18 from judicial sources close to the case.
The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office confirmed “the arrest of an individual after investigations by the investigative services”. “He is taken into custody,” he said without further details.
The victim, a 44-year-old woman who was running on Saturday January 11 late in the morning in a health park in Vergèze, in the Gard, was struck from behind with several stab wounds. His vital prognosis was in jeopardy for a long time, before his state of health stabilized.
The day after the attack, the Nîmes public prosecutor launched a call for witnesses, specifying that a flagrant investigation into attempted homicide had been opened. Large numbers of gendarmes were also deployed on January 11 and 12 around Vergèze, with 70 gendarmes, supported by aerial means, drones and helicopters, as well as dog teams.
