This Monday, January 20, the transfer window was lively for two former FC Metz players. These are Lenny Joseph and Maxwel Cornet who respectively join Ferencváros TC (Hungary) and Genoa CFC (Italy). The latter have been playing in Grenoble since 2023 and West Ham United since 2022.
While FC Metz continues its transfer window, two former members of the Grenat house made headlines this Monday, January 20. The attackers Lenny Joseph et Maxwell Cornet left their respective clubs (Grenoble and West Ham). The first left Isère to join Ferencváros TC, undisputed Hungarian champion since 2019. The second was loaned until the end of the season to Genoa CFC (12th in Serie A) by West Ham. Two different destinations for two players who need to revive their careers.
A first challenge abroad for Lenny Joseph
Former FC Metz striker (2021-2023), Lenny Joseph ended a disappointing adventure with Grenoble. However, last season, the Paris native started 31 times in the 37 Ligue 2 matches played. His offensive performance was still better than in Metz (3 goals, 6 assists). However, the professional right winger has not managed to continue and has only been decisive four times in fifteen league matches this season (2 goals, 2 assists). After a year and a half in Grenoble, he leaves with a meager record of eight goals and assists in fifty-six matches in all competitions.
-The 24-year-old former Garnet decided to settle down at Ferencváros TC. The multiple Hungarian champions are the first foreign club to Lenny Joseph. This one finds two other ex-Messins players: Habib Maïga (2018-2024) et Adama Traore (2018-2021).
Maxwel Cornet discovering Italy
Since leaving FC Metz in 2015, Maxwel Cornet played for four different clubs (Lyon 2015-2021, Burnley 2021-2022, West Ham United since 2022, Southampton 2024-2025). But the Ivorian international was in difficulty at West Ham. After a first season marked by a long injury and a victory in the Conference League, Cornet only played seven matches in the Premier League for a goal scored last year. In fact, he was loaned to Southampton last summer to find playing time.
Despite the club's catastrophic sporting situation, the left winger only played two league matches. To allow him to get back on track, the leaders of the Hammers decided to loan him again, this time to Genoa CFC. At 28, the tormentor of Manchester City in the Champions League has the opportunity to save his season in Italy.
