The President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Senegal, Jean-Marc Pisani, to discuss various issues, including bilateral cooperation and visa-related challenges. During this meeting, the President expressed his concerns regarding delays and frequent refusals of visas by European consulates, highlighting the negative impact on academic, professional and cultural exchanges between the two parties.

“The President of the National Assembly, Mr. El Malick Ndiaye, received the Ambassador of the European Union to Senegal, Mr. Jean-Marc Pisani, accompanied by a delegation. The discussions focused on strengthening relations between Senegal and the European Union, cooperation priorities, as well as challenges related to visas and immigration.

Mr. Pisani congratulated President Ndiaye on his election and praised the democratic resilience of Senegal despite the tensions of 2024. He presented the final report of the EU Electoral Observation Mission and recalled the priority areas of cooperation, in particular education, health and sustainable development.

President Ndiaye thanked the EU for its support of the democratic process and presented his plans to modernize the National Assembly, including legislative reforms, digitalization and the creation of a parliamentary channel.

He also expressed concerns about delays and frequent refusals of visas by European consulates, which hinder academic, professional and cultural exchanges.

Addressing European migration policy, he called for a more inclusive and pragmatic approach, favoring legal and orderly migration, while strongly rejecting irregular immigration.

This meeting reaffirmed the importance of strengthened cooperation between Senegal and the European Union, based on mutual respect and consideration of shared realities. »
