The CBK Mersin received the Spanish team from Salamanca and the match-up was taken very seriously by the Turkish club. After a first basket of Pig MACHINE (12 points, 5 rebounds) (0-2), Mersin's offensive machine was going to start doing big damage. Indeed, after 5 minutes, the partners of Bridget CARLETON (7 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists) led by 8 points (15-7). These figures would double 5 minutes later with Salamanca finding itself behind by 15 lengths (30-15). The highlight of this end of the first quarter was the injury of Natasha HOWARD (8 points, 1 rebound), who after contact at the shoulder had to leave his partners. The pain was such that the American player left the room to carry out the first examinations. On the floor, teammates of Mariella FASOULA (10 points, 4 rebounds) tried to set up a zone defense, but that did not prevent the Mersin club from maintaining its lead and returning to the locker room with a 17-point lead (48-31). In the 2nd half, Mersin's attack was less “we do”, even if we were able to witness an overall performance ofIliana RUPERT (34 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) exceptional in attack with very high percentages. The Frenchwoman therefore contributed to the fact that Salamanca was unable to return below the 10 point deficit mark. We were able to observe a well-managed end to the match by CBK Mersin who scored another victory and continues to be undefeated in this competition.
In the evening, Bourges hosted Basket Landes for the 2nd consecutive confrontation between the two clubs since they played each other on Saturday as part of the Boulangère Wonderligue. This last duel had clearly turned to the advantage of the Berruyères and we had the same forces present yesterday evening. The start of the match was tense with Basket Landes who generally had the advantage, notably obtaining a +5 (10-15). After 10 minutes of play, there was only one point difference between the two French teams (17-18). The start of the 2nd quarter started strong for both teams with success behind the 3-point line. John EWODO (18 points, 3 rebounds) responded perfectly to Happiness is handsome (13 points, 2 assists) in this exercise and the score was still very close (25-27). Bourges went on a 10-0 run to create the first real gap of the match (35-27). Tima POUYE (17 points, 4 rebounds) confirmed this gap before halftime with another 3 points scored (38-30). After the break, Basket Landes did not let Bourges escape too much, even if the partners of Luisa GEISELSODER (9 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) failed to come back within 2 possessions of a gap (51-46). The scenario of the 2nd quarter repeated itself, as Bourges scored a 3 point at the end of the 3rd quarter to regain an 8-point lead (54-46). The players ofOlivier LAFARGUE were aware that a good start to the 4th quarter could give them a less stressful end to the match. The teammates of Kariata DIABY-MARTINIERE (13 points, 11 rebounds) obtained a +14 (66-52). The Tango Bourges interior made differences in the paint and the 14 offensive rebounds obtained by his team made the difference in realizing second chances. Basket Landes realized that the clock was going against the wind and that Bourges was going to win again. In terms of direct confrontations, the record is now 2 wins / 2 losses for each of the two clubs, but what is certain is that Bourges takes 3rd place in Group E with this success.
Group F:
USK Prague | Fenerbahce | 54-63 |
In Group F, there was the poster between USK Prague and Fenerbahçe. The 1st quarter saw the Czech club play eye to eye with the Fenerbahçe club. Indeed, the partners of Brionna JONES (12 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks) finished the first 10 minutes better and this was reflected on the scoreboard (18-12). The players of Natalia HEJKOVA felt the opportunity coming to widen the gap at the start of the 2nd quarter (25-14). Without taking a break, Fenerbahçe immediately shifted gears to get back to -3 and cause an opposing timeout (25-22). As half-time approached, it was the French Gabby WILLIAMS (7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) who distinguished herself by snatching an offensive rebound and scoring the last three points of the first half allowing Fenerbahçe to lead for the first time in the match (34-35). The defenses would gain the upper hand over the attacks in the last 20 minutes of regulation time. In this little game, the teammates of Segvi UZUN (6 points, 3 assists, 4 steals) obtained an advantage of +8 less than 2 minutes from the end of the 3rd quarter (40-48). There were only 5 points difference at the start of the 4th quarter (45-50) and everything was still possible for USK Prague who had to do without the services of Maria CONDEwho confirmed his terrible injury which occurred last week against Zaragoza. Indeed, the Spanish international ruptured her Achilles tendon and her season abruptly ended. Fenerbahçe was clearly not having a good night at its away address (2 out of 16 in the match), but USK Prague committed a lot of turnovers (21) and this gave a lot of points in return (27 points) . The money-time was controlled by the players of Valérie GARNIER who were able to secure their 8th victory this season in the Euroleague. The top scorer of the match and the only player of the Turkish club to have scored more than 10 points is called Emma MEESSEMAN (19 points, 9 rebounds).
