The Mokhtar Soussi dam raising project, which has a progress rate of 59%, has seen its completion times shortened by six months thanks to the intensification of work, with delivery now scheduled for November 2026 instead of May 2027, depending on the platform Maa Dialnareporting to the Ministry of Equipment and Water.
With a budget of 1.19 billion dirhams, the project aims to increase the storage capacity of this hydraulic infrastructure to 280 million cubic meters (m3) to meet the region’s water needs.

The work in progress covers several essential aspects. This mainly involves strengthening the main structure of the dam to ensure its stability and increase its storage capacity. At the same time, sensitive areas of the structure are consolidated with resistant materials, guaranteeing its long-term durability. In addition, bottom digging operations are carried out to optimize hydraulic management and water retention. Injections are also carried out to guarantee waterproofing and reinforce the integrity of the entire structure.
From 62.5 to 101 meters in height
According to Ayoub El Khaliki, responsible for the works, this elevation will play a key role in the supply of drinking water to the town of Taroudant and surrounding communities. It will also guarantee the irrigation of agricultural land located downstream and contribute to the recharge of the local water table, while protecting downstream areas against the risk of flooding.
On a technical level, the dam is based on a rock structure covered with a concrete mask. Once the works are completed, its height will increase from 62.5 to 101 meters, while the length of its crest will reach 768 meters.
