Saint-Louis: three fishermen missing in the capsizing of a canoe

Three fishermen went missing in the capsizing of a canoe near the Saint-Louis breach this Wednesday, according to information from the Local Artisanal Fishing Committee (CLPA).

The capsizing of two canoes in the same place on Saturday left five people dead. Mamadou Sarr, communications manager for the Local Artisanal Fishing Committee (CLPA) told the Press Agency. The occupants of one of the boats lived in Guet-ndar, a fishing district in the commune of Saint-Louis.

The two canoes encountered difficulties crossing the gap, explained Mr. Sarr, stressing that four occupants of one of them were missing. The body of one of the fishermen who were on board the other canoe was found, added the CLPA communications officer, specifying that the victims are residents of Gandiol, a region located south of Saint-Louis.

Mamadou Sarr deplored the non-compliance with the instructions of the CLPA which had passed the instructions of the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) concerning dangerous swells.
