A six-year-old boy died on the evening of Tuesday January 14 in a fire in an apartment in Noyon in Oise, AFP learned from the gendarmerie on Wednesday.
The child's mother managed to get out of the apartment, located in a “small four-story building”, and was taken care of by the firefighters, the commander of the gendarmerie company told AFP. from Compiègne Arthur Cholet.
The mother and child were alone in the apartment at the time of the disaster, which occurred after 9 p.m., he said.
An open investigation
A gendarmerie investigation under the authority of the Compiègne public prosecutor's office “is underway” to determine the circumstances of the fire and the child's death, added Commander Cholet.
According to another source within the gendarmerie, the origin of the disaster would be “a priori” accidental. The Compiègne public prosecutor's office did not immediately respond to requests from AFP.
This tragedy occurred barely a day after another fatal house fire in the Hauts-de-France region, which left three dead, including two minors aged nine and 15, in Wingles (Pas-de-Calais).
