Granit Xhaka was named best Swiss player of the year 2024 on Monday during Swiss Football Night. Renato Steffen is the best player in Super League, while Géraldine Reuteler and Naomi Luyet receive the main trophies among the ladies.
Captain and boss of a Swiss team which reached the quarter-finals of the Euro last summer in Germany, Granit Xhaka received the most prestigious prize of the evening for the third year in a row, the fourth in total. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was preferred to Vaudois Dan Ndoye (Bologna) and Manuel Akanji (Manchester City).
Another international, Renato Steffen is the best Super League player of the year 2024, a trophy that Dereck Kutesa (Servette) and Filip Ugrinic (Young Boys) also coveted. He led FC Lugano, championship leader before the restart, to final 2nd place in the 2023/24 financial year.
Best Young Player
Among the ladies, the player of the year is Géraldine Reuteler, leader of the Women’s Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt. Hopeful Naomi Luyet (19) is the best player in the Super League. Co-top scorer in the 2024/25 championship with 8 goals, the Valaisanne logically left the Casino de Berne with a second trophy, that of the best young player.
Among the men, the best youngster is the former Lucern player Ardon Jashari, who has two selections for the Swiss A team and now plays in Bruges. Finally, the last trophy, which recognizes the best player playing in the Challenge League, went to FC Aarau attacking midfielder Valon Fazliu.
