Clearly, nothing went as planned on Saturday in Charleroi. From the pre-match, things got out of hand, notably with… the Standard anthem ringing out at Mambourg.
In reality, perhaps we could predict from the Charleroi-Union pre-match that things would not go as planned. The atmosphere was festive at the Mambourg, certainly, but the speaker/DJ responsible for creating this atmosphere made a lot of mistakes.
Let us first highlight an attitude that is particularly ill-suited to the tribute paid to Daniel Mathy (whom the speaker even called… Michel Mathy), which resembled more of a funfair atmosphere than a respectful homage to such a legend. of Sporting Charleroi.
But above all, what was particularly unappreciated by the Mambourg audience was the DJ’s choice of playlist. Indeed, amid the general astonishment, it was nothing less than… the Standard’s anthem, “We are the best”, which rang out.
The famous “popopopopoleo” were of course transformed, as is customary (but generally in Sclessin…) into a “band of badgers”, but the damage was done: it was difficult to hide discomfort in the stands. Part of the Carolo audience actually chanted “anti Standard” once the song was over.
