Part of the cliff which overlooks the RD91D departmental road collapsed this Thursday, January 9 in the morning. This secondary road, called the “cave road”, which connects Champagny-en-Vanoise to Pralognan-la-Vanoise, is completely obstructed by 1,500 cubic meters of rocks which have fallen away.
Another five hundred cubic meters could still fall on this still unstable sector.
“It doesn’t freak us outtempers René Ruffier-Lanche, mayor (SE) of Champagny-en-Vanoise. It only takes the locals a little detour. This road is rarely used, and the landslide did not cause any casualties.. Information confirmed by the Savoie firefighters.
-The path is only used by “a few hundred vehicles per day“, confirms the Department of Savoie.
It must be said that local residents are used to avoiding this departmental road. In recent years, it has been closed several times due to ground movements or episodes of debris flow.
“This is a recurring phenomenon, especially during this period of thaw with the warm weather.“, continues the councilor.
This afternoon, a geologist and a team from the department’s roads service went to the site to study the site.and know what work to undertake“. “For the moment, we have no visibility on the construction site and its duration.“, recognizes the Department’s communications service.
In the meantime, a diversion has been put in place via the Bozel road and the RD915.
