Crowds are very high in hospital emergency departments and hospitals in the canton. A congestion that we find in certain neighboring cantons and which is rather classic at this time of the year, especially because of winter viruses.
However, “this situation often creates long waiting times for non-vital emergencies and leads to an overload for staff as well as a more general congestion of services. This is why the Canton recommends that people with symptoms of illness request initial guidance before going to the emergency room. Several primary care professionals are able to advise, guide and offer treatment,” indicates the Department of Health and Social Action.
-It is recommended to first contact your doctor (or pediatrician if it is a child). For people aged 16 and over, it is also possible to contact pharmacists, for example in cases of burns, cuts, persistent cough, gynecological problems, stomach aches, headaches, etc. . In the event of extensive maintenance, this may be billed at 20 to 30 francs, not covered. The patient will be informed in advance.
Finally, people who do not have a treating doctor, cannot go to the pharmacy or who consult for children and young people under 16 years old, “are invited to contact the CTMG (Telephone center for doctors on call) at 0848 133 133 to receive advice tailored to their situation. These specialists will determine if a trip to the emergency room is necessary.
