DAKAR, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) — China constitutes a tangible global example in terms of development, and Senegal must take its example by considering it as a model in this area, said the director general of the Maison de la presse. from Senegal, Sambou Biagui.
As the “best country for Senegal to copy”, China offers the opportunity to build cooperation around four major axes, as shown by the visit to China of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on September 3 and 4, 2024 , underlined Sambou Biagui in an exclusive interview recently granted to Xinhua.
During the Senegalese president’s visit to China, the two sides issued a joint statement on deepening cooperation. The declaration identifies four main areas of cooperation: the consolidation of high-level strategic mutual trust, the strengthening of synergy between their development strategies, the promotion of multilateralism, equity and international justice, and the construction of a high-level community of destiny.
All conditions are met for the two countries to move in this direction, because their heads of state maintain “cordial” relations, just as the two peoples maintain relations of “friendship and fraternity”, he said. he pointed out.
He recalled that the Senegalese president had launched a large number of projects in Senegal based on the construction of a high-level community of destiny between the two parties.
The partnership that China promotes is above all based on respect, which explains why the Chinese side is in favor of “mutual and win-win” cooperation, he explained.
Given that Senegal wants to develop from its agriculture, China is currently “the best country it can copy”, he affirmed, while advocating that Senegal move closer to the China to seize this opportunity and engage in real development.
Concretely speaking, the areas of cooperation identified with China should allow Senegal to develop its textile and cotton sectors, and to produce and transform its peanuts, oil and gas on site, he concluded.
