Since Wednesday January 8, 2025, a winter offensive with snow, wind and cold has disrupted part of France, particularly the north and west. Météo France has placed seven departments on orange alert for flood risks, three for snow and dozens of departments on yellow snow-ice or flood alert.
A weather disturbance which left two dead and dozens injured in the Hauts-de-France region.
Flood and snow-icy alert in the Rhône
The Rhône department is placed on flood alert this Thursday, and on yellow snow-ice and flood alert on Friday January 10.
The Saône river is still in flood until the end of the week, causing the department to be placed on yellow flood alert on Thursday and Friday inclusive.
Friday from 7 a.m., the Rhône will switch to snow-ice vigilance due to possible snowfall mixed with rain over part of the department. The severity of the episode should remain moderate and much less than that underway on Thursday in the north of the country (where there is up to 10-15 cm).
The end of the yellow snow-ice warning is expected at noon on Friday.
Sectors of the Rhône possibly affected by snow
“The snow axis should go from eastern Brittany to the Massif Central and Burgundy, going back to the south of Île-de-France. Snow accumulations could be as significant in the Alpine valleys,” writes Météo France.
Locally Friday morning, these are the areas of Belleville-en-Beaujolais, Trades, Thizy, Tarare, Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise which may be affected by snow. The episode should not be significant. The rain should then dominate the entire department.
In terms of temperatures, the return of the cold is confirmed this Friday with negative temperatures in the morning and the end of the mildness during the day. Temperatures will be around 3 to 5°C maximum in the afternoon, according to Météo France.
