Are you shivering already? Well, get ready to shiver! Polar air is gradually settling in Switzerland. Since Wednesday, clashes between warm and cold air masses have caused weather changes, accompanied by rain, sleet, snow and ice. Significant disruptions are expected this Thursday afternoon. A sudden drop in temperatures accompanied the passage of a front line, lowering the snowfall limit to very low altitudes, below 1500 m.
On Friday, Switzerland will remain under the influence of cold air, with further precipitation. A small depression will move from Brittany towards the western Alps, bringing further precipitation in the afternoon. On the northern slopes of the Alps, it will mainly be in the form of snow. A few centimeters could also accumulate in the plain. A brief incursion of mild air could temporarily turn snow into rain, particularly in the west.
This weekend, the polar air will definitely take up residence, consolidated by a powerful anticyclone. The weather conditions will be icy but calm, as indicated by MétéoSwiss. A prolonged cold spell is also looming, with temperatures typical of the season.
