Looking towards the milestone of 220,000 inhabitants, - continues to grow at a sustained pace thanks to a policy of real estate construction ambitious and assertively attractive.

Menucourt, palm of progress

This is the observation that emerges from reading the latest figures of the census published by theINSEE. Au 1is January 2025, the former New Town has 219,620 inhabitants compared to 216,320 in 2024, 207,503 in 2012 and 199,272 in 2010. In six years, from 2016 to 2022, the year of the last statistical reference used by INSEE for take stock, the territory with 13 municipalities has gained 11 614 inhabitants (+ 5.5%). A demographic boost comparable to the period 2014-2020 during which the population of Cergypontine increased by 5.6%.

In six years, from 2016 to 2022, all the municipalities of the agglomeration follow an inflationary curve with the exception of Vauréal (-1.4%). Boisemont (900 inhabitants, + 17%) aside, due to an increase to be put into perspective given its low domestic population, Menucourt takes the prize for the strongest increase (6,237 inhabitants, + 10.2%) and clears the 6,000 inhabitants mark for the first time. The commune which borders with Vexin is closely followed by Eragny-sur-Oise whose population increases by 9.9% to reach 18,860 inhabitants and is inexorably approaching the threshold of 20,000. While Jouy-le-Moutier (17,563 hbts, + 8.4%), long prey to demographic decline, confirms, like last year, its new dynamic.

But the symbol of this uninterrupted growth still remains Cergy. The administrative capital of Val d'Oise now has 69,965 inhabitants and still holds second place on the podium of the most populated towns in the department behind the unbeatable (107,563 inhabitants).

In six years, Cergy has gained 5,500 inhabitants, an increase of 8.5%. A pace promised to slow down under a Cergy-Pontoise Local Housing Plan which endorses less offensive real estate construction. The decline will be valid for Cergy but also for a former New Town which should not, according to its president Jean-Paul Jeandon (Ps), venture beyond 230,000 souls.
